ABOUT THE PERTH MINT
History and Establishment
The Perth Mint is Australia's oldest operating mint and one of the world's most prestigious precious metals refineries. Established on 20 June 1899, it was originally a branch of the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom, created to refine gold from the rich goldfields of Western Australia.
In 1970, ownership of The Perth Mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia. Today, it operates as a statutory corporation wholly owned by the Western Australian Government, providing investors with a government-backed guarantee that is unique among private mints globally.
Accreditations and Standards
The Perth Mint is accredited as a Good Delivery Refiner by both the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and the London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM). This accreditation represents the highest standard of quality assurance in the global precious metals industry.
The Mint's refinery processes approximately 800 tonnes of gold annually, representing a significant portion of Australia's gold production. All products are guaranteed to meet or exceed the stated purity levels, typically 99.99% for gold bullion.
